Our History

Our founder Maurice Abarhams graduated from Londons Tailor and Cutter Academy in 1955. He specialised in turning around ailing UK tailoring factories, cutting new patterns and establishing profitable modern manufacturing techniques.

In 1958 he was appointed cutter for Aquascutum, then Londons most prestigious tailoring store and was the favourite of many of the  British and American film stars of the time.

In 1966 along with his wife who was from an Irish Tailoring background, they opened their first Bespoke Tailoring workrooms in Dublin's Dame Street. Success came quickly and a bigger shop was setup in Parliament Street on 1974. It was during the late 1970s Declan joined the growing business to work with the Irish Export Board to sell our handmade garments to prestigious stores abroad. From Coras Trachtala's Ireland House in Londons Bond Street we sold our garments to Harrods,The original Savoy Tailors Guild of London, also designers Hermes, Nina Ricci and Old England in Paris.

Each garment was made to their exacting standards and while all were supplied with the individual store or designer label, all had a proud 'Handmade in the Republic of Ireland' label sewn inside each suit, cashmere coat or sports jacket. In 1981, seeing these stores success with our garments, and with Ireland's growing interest in menswear, Declan opened our own Bespoke Boutique in Dublin's fashionable South Anne Street, which is still  our home today. Our workrooms moved to the same address in the early 1990s. During the following years we introduced many famous European ready-to-wear brands to the Irish market notably Cerruti, Zegna, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, also the Versace diffusion lines. The luxury fledgling brand Faconnable from France was also added exclusively to our collections.

Today, we continue to bring you the most innovative and best in personal made to measure, ready to wear and fully handmade garments.
